SUMMARY:Choosing Assistive Technology and Vision Solutions: Top Three Tips from the Lighthouse for the Blind
DESCRIPTION:This guest post is courtesy of John Garcia. He is a Licensed Dispensing Optician and Manager of Miami Lighthouse for the Blind’s Vision Solutions Center (see Resources below). \nFinding out that you or a loved one is blind or visually impaired can be overwhelming. What can be even more overwhelming is sifting through the vast amount of resources and devices on the internet that are available to help. There is no one size fits all approach. That’s why it’s important to have an open dialogue with your optometrist and/or ophthalmologist. \nFollow the link for this discussion which is archived on the Lighthouse for the Blind website

SUMMARY:National Disability Employment Awareness Month Resources
DESCRIPTION:Held every October\, NDEAM is a fitting time to educate about disability employment issues and celebrate the many and varied contributions of America’s workers with disabilities. The 2020 NDEAM theme is Increasing Access and Opportunity. \nNDEAM is led by the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Disability Employment Policy (ODEP)\, but its true spirit lies in the many observances held at the grassroots level across the nation every year. The Campaign for Disability Employment (CDE) encourages organizations of all sizes and in all industries to participate in NDEAM. \nFor ideas on supporting NDEAM\, visit the website www.dol.gov/ndeam. Suggestions range from simple\, such as putting up a poster\, to comprehensive\, such as implementing a disability education program. However you choose to take part\, you’ll be playing an important role in fostering a more inclusive workforce\, one where every person is recognized for his or her abilities—every day of every month.
