SUMMARY:AVENTURA CENTER Sensory Inclusive Performance - Arts Ballet Theatre: The Nutcracker
DESCRIPTION:This Sensory Inclusive Performance is intended to create a welcoming and supportive environment for children and adults on the autism spectrum as well as individuals with other sensitivity issues or developmental disabilities. To create a sensory-inclusive setting\, slight adjustments have been made to the production including reduced sound levels\, no flashing or strobe lights and minimal special effects. An area adjacent to the theater has been designated as a Quiet Room with specially trained volunteers to provide audience support. \nCelebrating their 25th Anniversary\, Arts Ballet Theatre of Florida is proud to present a “sensory-inclusive” dance performance with this modified\, shortened version of the holiday classic ballet\, The Nutcracker. Created by the world-famous composer Tchaikovsky nearly 200 years ago\, The Nutcracker tells the story of a spectacular Christmas Eve party and the magical events that take place late that night. With dancers of all ages\, colorful costumes and breathtaking music\, this abridged (60-minute)\, sensory-friendly performance of the timeless classic celebrates the magic of the season and serves as wonderful introduction to the ballet. \nEnjoy complimentary pre-show art activity provided by the Museum of Discovery & Science! \nGoing to the Theater Social Narrative: Coming Soon!\nCharacter Guide: [PDF]

SUMMARY:Quarterly Conversations with Miami Children's Museum: the Benfits of Diverse Friends
DESCRIPTION:QUARTERLY CONVERSATIONS:  Fundamental Friendships: The Benefits of Diverse Friendship Groups for Children\n\n\nChildren as young as 6 months old begin to notice differences in skin color. Join us on January 24th @ 1:00pm as we speak with experts about how to encourage cross group friendships among children and how the benefits of developing diverse friendships creates resilient youth when faced with stereotypes and racism. \nWe invite you to register below and join us for a lively discussion and Q&A. See you there! \n*We strive to host an inclusive and accessible presentation. If there are materials associated with the panel they will be distributed to participants in advance\, live captioning\, and ASL interpretation will be provided during the panel.  If you have questions about the accessibility of our presentation or want to request accommodations\, please reach out to Sarah Coleman at scoleman@miamichildrensmuseum.org or 305-373-5437 ext. 130 \n\n  \ndiversefriends-flyer (1)
